I’ve had guns aimed at me twice
Both times by the cops
One in my apartment
Once a traffic stop

Protect and serve what?
I’m left with the thought
If I was black either time
I’d’ve probably been shot

I’d back the blue
As I blew out the back
Of the officer who
Drew on me as fast

As shit attracts flies
In the thick summer heat
As another man dies
Face down in the street

Brutality delivered
With bullets and clubs
Faceless men detain citizens
Authoritarians

Tiny car with a siren
And red spinning light
Give a gun to a dolt
Who grants me my rights?

It’s standard issue
A big badge and big shoes
A fake lapel flower
For pepper spray showers

Deputized clowns
Waving badges around
Have forgotten a few
Inconvenient truths

I bought your silly horn
I bought your uniform
I pay your salary
You work for me
